MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY
Mobile photography is the term used to describe photographs that are taken with a mobile device or iPod/iPad. It's a easy way to capture moments as you usually have your phone/ipod/ipad on you so theres no fuss for carrying around a big camera with you all the time! Here are some of my favourite mobile photographers.
For my project I plan to take images based on the subject of movement. Movement is a very interesting subject in photography as although you can capture somebody or something in process of moving you will never be able to capture somebodys actual movement from one place to another unless you use a long exposure where you will be able to see the outline of somebody or someones progression. It will be really interesting to take these photo's as I'm hoping to get a lot of contrast in them. For example if I try and capture somebody moving they will be blurred and less focussed however the background will remain still leaving it in focus creating a contrast. By using a mobile or iPod to capture the motion in my images it will be significantly easier than using an SLR because with a mobile or iPod I want have to alter much of the settings however with an SLR I would have to change things like the shutter speed. I was inspired to pick 'movement' as my theme for this project as I recently took a photo of something moving that I was perticular proud of. Here it is below.
This photo was taken at a tube station. The image is of a woman holding an umbrella waiting for the train to go past. It's a clear example of what I want to do when I take the photographs for my personal project. The movement in the photograph is coming from the train that quickly runs past the woman, I love contrasts in this image firstly of the woman that is standing peacefully whilst the busy and fast train goes past her. I can't wait to take some images inspired by this photo of mine for my project and hopefully I'll be proud of them too.
Here are 20 photographs I took at school based on the subject, movement.
Overall I'm not pleased with the images I took. I think they are quite weak and lack in subject. If I were to do them again I would make the images busier and more similar to eachother as I think that when you display images in a collection like this, they should all be obviously similar. Although this collection of images all have the same subject I don't feel that is potrayed through the images. However if you were to display these images on their own I think they would look much better and more meaningful and you could look deeper into the images and see more than just at a glance. I hope that the next images I take are busier and possibly more exciting.
11 Mobile Images
For our half term homowork we were suppose to take 11 more images using a mobile, based on our chosen subject. Hopefully you should see progress in these images compared to my ones before.
Here are some more images taken using an app called andigraf, based on the subject lines. |
This is the weakest image out of the collection of images I've taken, there are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly I think this image lacks in clarity and resolution, this is because I moved undeliberately when capturing this image. Although this could be seen as a positive thing as my subject is movement I don't think it works too well because I already have blurring in the image. I think also it would have been benificial if I had made the contrast higher when editing it on my phone, not only would this distract the viewer from the lack of clarity it would also make it a more vibrant and bold image. Despite these weak points I still think this image has potential as it is a good example for movement and draws the viewer in.

I took 17 images overall using an app called andigraff. This app ables us to take photos (using different lenses) and put them together to create one image. At first I didn't know how to change the black and white setting therefore some of my images that I wanted in colour were not. I think if they were in colour they would be more exciting and less dull as the black and white lense I used created quite a dull effect and not very contrasting making the image quite vague, and I don't like vague images unless they are extremely vague. I was mostly interested with taking images of shadows and less interested with taking images of objects as I couldn't capture strong definite lines with objects as much as I could with shadows and windows etc. I'm really pleased with the outcome of most of my images however some of them lacked in subject matter as they seem dull and not much life around them, this however is probably because the task was quite restrictive and I couldn't experiment much as we had to take images of only straight lines.
